Notice of 2009 PEC By-Election

District Representative, Edmonton City Geographic District
An ATA Provincial Executive Council by-election will be held for the office of District Representative Edmonton City Geographic District. The term of office is from October 26, 2009, to June 30, 2011.

Information below details dates of key election activities:

June 10    Preliminary call for nominations—election ­information and nomination forms mailed to all school representatives and local secretaries within the district and posted on ATA’s provincial website (www.teachers.ab.ca).
September 1    Formal call for nominations—second and last mailing of election information and nomination forms to all school representatives and local ­secretaries within the district.
 September 18 Close of nominations—completed nomination and acceptance forms must be received at Barnett House before 12 midnight.
September 22    Candidates will be announced in ATA News and on www.teachers.ab.ca.
October 5    Ballots mailed to all eligible voters: active teachers will have ballots sent to schools; ballots will be mailed to home addresses of 1) substitute teachers, 2) teachers on leave and 3) teachers at schools with fewer than three teachers.
October 12    Deadline for issuing affidavits for ballot issuance to members who do not receive a ballot in the mail/their school package.
October 16    Deadline for ballots to be returned to school ­representatives.
October 26    Election day—all ballots picked up from PO Box 1000, Edmonton at 9 A.M. and brought to ­Barnett House for official counting.

The Edmonton City Geographic District includes all schools ­situated within Edmonton Public Teachers No. 37 and Edmonton Catholic Teachers No. 54.

Active and associate members in these locals as of August 31, 2009, are eligible to vote in this by-election.
