Dr. Isabelle Chotard, a volunteer with Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), explains to students how she gauges and treats malnutrition in children in refugee camps. Dr. Chotard’s demonstration was part of "Refugee Camp in the Heart of the City," a reconstruction of a refugee camp, displayed in Edmonton and Calgary this September. The exhibit featured materials used by MSF in its emergency medical work around the world, including emergency refugee housing, a food distribution tent, a water pump, a health clinic, a vaccination tent, a therapeutic feeding centre and a cholera treatment centre.
About 4,000 Alberta students visited the mock refugee camp and gained insight into the plight of refugees.
