Calgary Public Teachers Local No. 38 received the Local Political Engagement Award for its program to advocate on behalf of Calgary public schools. The campaign included a trivia game to engage and inform teachers about the new minister of education; a poster featuring photos of the new premier and education minister along with information about the minister’s mandate; and a postcard campaign encouraging teachers to send messages to the minister. Some 1,200 Calgary teachers took advantage of the opportunity to send their ideas for improving public education to the new minister.
