2007 ATA Gold Medals in Education awarded

M. E. Lazerte Gold Medal in Education

Alison SaundersAlison Saunders, from the University of Alberta, is this year’s recipient of the M.E. Lazerte Gold Medal in Education. Saunders attended Harry Ainlay High School, in Edmonton. Over the course of her academic career, she received a Jason Lang Scholarship (2001), two Louise McKinney postsecondary scholarships (2002 and 2006) and the Earl Buxton Memorial Scholarship (2006).

La Médaille d’Or Marie-Louise Brugeyroux

Mélanie Simard, of Campus Saint-Jean, University of Alberta, attended the Université de Haute-Alsace, graduating with distinction. She attended Dalhousie University for a year of research. She ranked first in her class and hopes to teach in High Prairie, Alberta.

Clarence Sansom Gold Medal in Education

Leslie Erin CorbettLeslie Erin Corbett, of the University of Calgary, is the recipient of the Clarence Sansom Medal in Education. Prior to graduating from the U of C’s Master of Teaching program, Corbett was a professional opera singer, having earned her degree in performance from the Royal Academy of Music in London, England. Corbett is involved with nonprofit agencies in Calgary and has worked with special needs students, ESL and gifted students. This fall, Corbett will teach Grade 5 at River Valley School, in Calgary.

William Aberhart Gold Medal in Education

Keith GriffioenKeith Griffioen, University of Lethbridge, completed a BEd (After Degree) in 2006 with Great Distinction, with a major in music education and a minor in social studies education. His previous degree (1996) was granted from Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington, where he completed a Bachelor of Music with a major in music performance. He graduated magna cum laude from this earlier program.


Also in Honour Roll
