School administrators visit Lethem’s local Internet Café. This was the first time these Guyanese administrators were able to surf the Internet. School computers are still a rarity in rural Guyana.

Lethem, Guyana, is a town located in the Upper Takutu–Upper Essequibo region of Guyana, near the border with Brazil. Many residents are Amerindians of the Macushi and Wapishana tribes. In this area of Guyana, the Takutu River system forms a natural border between the two countries. Many of the Guyanese teacher participants must travel great distances to attend the Lethem workshop. One teacher wrote in her journal that she travelled by motorcycle, foot, boat, tractor and four-wheel-drive for 51 hours on two hours of sleep to attend the CTF workshop. This demonstrates how important these sessions are to our fellow teachers in Guyana.
