Burkina Faso is a former French colony of 12 million people, located on the edge of the Sahara desert in West Africa. Recognized as one of the poorest countries in the world, Burkina Faso receives support from many organizations to improve its citizens’ standard of living. Some of these projects are aimed at education because better education will lead to better living conditions. Teachers’ unions are essential in improving education because they are aware of what happens in the classrooms across the country. Because most elementary teachers have only completed Grade 10, it is valuable to provide them with opportunities for education during their summer vacation. The need for better teaching methods is obvious.
