Students at St. Helena Junior High School, in Calgary, had a chance to have fun and raise money for a good cause. For a small donation, students bought strips of duct tape to stick to their principal, John MacDonald.

The Tape a Principal to a Wall campaign was one of many events coordinated by the student action group WAVES (Water Awareness through the Voices of Extraordinary Students). The group also raises funds for CAWST (Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology). The funds purchase biosand water filters, which provide clean drinking water, for communities in developing countries. To date, students have raised more than $1,300.

The fundraising activity was a hit with students, said teachers Gleba Deacon and Mary Flanagan, who coordinated the event. “It’s not often you get to stick it to the principal … while helping a worthy cause,” commented Deacon.
