School "text" takes on new meaning

A professor at the University of Leeds in Britain doesn’t flinch when his students use their cellphones during his lectures. In fact, Kevin Lynch encourages his students to text answers to questions he asks during his history lectures. Students’ responses are displayed on a projector screen for class discussion. "It was a way of getting them to engage with the lecture quite quickly in a fairly straightforward way," says Lynch. "It might be a bit gimmicky at the moment, but I don’t think it necessarily will be in the future."
