Dropout rates among Canadian teens declined almost 50 per cent between 1991 and 2005. Statistics Canada found that the dropout rate had fallen to 9.8 per cent during the 2004/05 school year from 16.7 per cent in the 1990/91 school year. The study also found that the majority of dropouts are young men, and rural areas have higher dropout rates than urban areas.
