During July, as teachers travelled, visited family, undertook home renovations or simply relaxed, a group of 30 teachers from Edmonton Public local volunteered to improve their community. This was the order of the day, from July 11–13, as teachers gave their time, patience and expertise to Edmonton’s Habitat for Humanity. There was a steep learning curve for some, as first-time carpenters plied their trade cutting wood, pounding nails, installing drywall and windows. Teachers agreed that the experience was fantastic—they plan to do it all again next summer. Habitat for Humanity’s organizers were equally enthusiastic. "What a great way for teachers to support our community. We appreciate their efforts."
