  1. Directed President Mark Ramsankar to send a letter to the British Columbia Teachers’ Federation in support of teachers’ job action.
  2. Amended the 2014/15 proposed budget.
  3. Approved, for submission to the 2014 Annual Representative Assembly (ARA), resolutions (1) affirming that the teachers of Alberta have lost confidence in the minister of education; (2) urging government to unequivocally affirm its intention to maintain responsibility for professional conduct and practice review with the Association; (3) urging government to unequivocally affirm its intention to maintain the structure and powers of the Board of Reference as they currently exist, unless proposed changes are approved by the Association; (4) urging government to unequivocally affirm its intention to maintain the joint professional and union structure of the Association and to obtain the approval of the Association for any proposed changes affecting its structure and powers; (5) urging government to recognize that school administrators are, first and foremost, instructional leaders and unequivocally affirm its intention to maintain school administrators as full, active members of the Association; (6) reaffirming the commitment of the Association as a professional organization to the people of Alberta to continue its efforts to improve teaching in Alberta and to protect the public interest by policing the conduct and competence of its members, as outlined in the Teaching Profession Act; (7) urging government to unequivocally reject cyclical teacher evaluation, removal of professional growth planning from teachers and recertification schemes outlined by the Task Force for Teaching Excellence; (8) directing the Association, where possible, to develop constructive responses to the recommendations of the Task Force for Teaching Excellence and commence a dialogue with government; (9) directing the Association to fund a media campaign devoted to addressing teacher concerns and raising the status of the teaching profession; and (10) affirming the Association’s support for the actions of the Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF) to oppose the passage of Bill C-23, Fair Elections Act, until the bill (a) is referred to a non-partisan committee that has equal representation from each political party with representation in the House and that uses a consensus-building model for decision making; (b) is amended to ensure that Elections Canada’s educational programming, including full funding in support of civic education and the Student Vote program, be maintained and (c) is amended to allow for voter identification cards to be included in the current list of valid identification.
  4. Directed staff to convene a Local Presidents’ Meeting in advance of the 2014 ARA, scheduled for May 17–19, 2014, in Calgary.
  5. Directed staff to distribute a condensed version of the CTF’s “Brief Submitted to the House of Commons’ Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs” to the 2014 ARA.
  6. Authorized an overexpenditure for the My Pension My Investment campaign, which seeks to educate members about the value of the Teachers’ Pension Plan.
  7. Authorized the purchase of a table package of 10 seats at the University of Alberta Institute for Sexual and Minority Studies and Services Mayor’s Pride Brunch, scheduled for June 15, 2014, in Edmonton.
  8. Established a Subcommittee on Alberta Flood Relief Claims Adjudication and Payment.
  9. Approved the names of 14 teachers for addition to the Association Administrator Instructors Corps name bank, which is used as a source of appointments to the Association Administrator Instructors Corps as the need arises.
  10. Approved the names of 17 teachers for reappointment and 9 teachers for addition to the Economic Consultants Corps name bank, which is used as a source of appointments to the Economic Consultants Corps as the need arises.
  11. Amended an administrative guideline regarding the admittance of observers to Council meetings.
  12. Approved Council committee and representation assignments for 2014/15.  ❚
