Alberta Teachers’ Association President Carol ­Henderson and Vice-Presidents Sharon Armstrong and Mark ­Ramsankar were acclaimed in this year’s Provincial Executive Council (PEC) elections, held March 23. Frank Bruseker will continue as past president.

In contests for district representatives (DR), incumbents Joanne Boissonneault, Denis Espetveidt and Kevin Kempt were re-elected in Calgary City. Calgary District elected newcomer Diane Sellars-Myshchyshyn, and Randy Proskiw will again represent Central East. Central South will see Léo Richer as its new representative; Chris Kohlman is the new DR for South East.

Acclaimed district representatives are Robert Twerdoclib, Central North; Jere Geiger, Central; Greg Jeffery, Edmonton District; and Markiana Cyncar-Hryschuk, Christine Harris and Quintin Yardley, Edmonton McMurray. Patrick Duffy will again represent North West, and Jason Schilling will represent South West.

As the governing body of the ATA, Provincial Executive Council consists of the president, two vice-presidents, the past president, the executive secretary and 15 district representatives, who represent 11 geographic districts. Edmonton McMurray and Calgary City districts each have three representatives. All other districts have one.

The president and the vice-presidents, who serve two-year terms, are elected by all ATA members through a mail-in ­balloting process. District representatives also serve two-year terms and are elected by the ATA members residing in their geographic districts.

Terms of office for all elected and acclaimed Council ­positions commence July 1, 2011.
