I want to thank the teachers of Calgary District for their continued support and encouragement. I have enjoyed serving the teachers of Rocky View, Foothills, Chinook and Canadian Rockies.
I believe a properly funded public education system supports teachers in their classrooms to meet the needs of all learners. The uncertainty of education funding and lack of funding for the class-size initiative and special education have caused undue hardship for students and teachers in Alberta.
Our primary professional responsibilities should be teaching and learning. Together, we must advocate for decent working conditions in a diverse and equitable public education system. Now more than ever we must work together to protect public education and our right to a collective voice as we gear up for another round of negotiation.
Open and transparent communication between locals and the provincial Association is of utmost importance. We need effective and strategic dialogue with members to enhance the democratic nature of our Association. As a member of Provincial Executive Council, I will continue to bring forward your concerns and issues and work to further strengthen our Association.
I have been an educator with Rocky View Schools for 24 years as a learning support teacher, classroom teacher, acting assistant principal and AISI lead teacher. I have served on Rocky View’s local executive for 15 years, including the role of vice-president for seven years and president for five years. I have been a member on all local standing committees and have participated in several joint committees of the local and district. I have attended numerous summer, professional development and teacher welfare conferences. For the past three years I’ve served as a district representative for Provincial Executive Council.
