Question: Minister of Education Jeff Johnson advised my school board before Christmas that he does not want to see salary increases for teachers, nor does he favour caps on instructional time and assignable time. I understand that he wants my school board to submit information on a proposed agreement with the Alberta Teachers’ Association at least 10 days before the board’s ratification date. I’m surprised by the interference—I thought we were bargaining with our school board, not the minister of education. What role does the minister of education have in local bargaining?

Answer: None.
