Highlights of the Provincial Executive Council emergent meeting held November 28, 2012, at Barnett House in Edmonton
- Directed the executive secretary to take steps related to tripartite discussions and provided a timeline for those steps.
- Named Dr. Mark Yurick, executive staff officer, Professional Development, to the position of coordinator, Professional Development, effective January 1, 2013.
Highlights of the Provincial Executive Council regular meeting held December 6 and 7, 2012, at Barnett House in Edmonton
- Received notice that Jacquie Skytt, assistant executive secretary, would retire on May 31, 2013, and named three Council members to a staff selection committee to recommend a successor. The internal competition closes January 4, 2013.
- Named three Council members to a staff selection committee for the position of executive staff officer, Professional Development. The competition closes February 7, 2013.
- Approved a draft memorandum of understanding between the Association and Mount Royal University, granting interim recognition of its teacher preparation program.
- Approved the 2013/14 program area budget recommendations and referred them to Finance Committee for costing.
- Effective September 1, 2013, increased the grant-in-aid rate for travel, subject to the approval of the 2013 Annual Representative Assembly.
- Directed that salary costs in the 2013/14 proposed budget be projected based on a specified increase to salary grids for all staff categories on relevant renewal dates.
- Amended an administrative guideline regarding Summer Conference to more closely align its objectives with the Association’s strategic directions.
- Directed that the Summer Conference program include a keynote session that sets the direction for the week.
- Directed that Summer Conference continue to be held in Banff.
- Directed the president to send a letter to locals, outlining Summer Conference objectives and encouraging locals to fill their complement.
- Directed the Summer Conference director to ensure that processes for program entitlements/eligibility and additional delegates are effectively communicated to subgroups and delegates, as required.
- Disbanded the Committee on Review of Summer Conference with thanks.
- Directed staff to ask the Canadian Teachers’ Federation to research and seek out possible resolution for all teacher pension plans affected by the provision in the Income Tax Act that reduces preretirement survivor benefits.
- Directed staff to take action concerning Regulation 203/95, Schedule 1, of the Teachers’ Pension Plans Act.
- Approved the name of one teacher for addition to the Curriculum name bank, which is used as a source of appointments to Alberta Education program, curriculum and student evaluation committees as the need arises.
- Approved the name of one teacher for addition to the Association Administrator Instructors name bank, which is used as a source of appointments to the Association Administrator Instructors corps as the need arises.
- Named representatives to Alberta Education committees and other external committees.
