The class of 2013 headed Down Under

November 6, 2012

Fifteen teachers from across Alberta are preparing for a year-long teacher exchange to Australia in 2013. After months of anticipation, here are some of things they had to say about their upcoming adventures.

What motivated you to apply for the International Education Exchange Program?

“I’ve always had an interest in other countries and cultures and have been interested in doing an exchange for as long as I have been teaching. Travelling around Australia for a year in 2008/09 reaffirmed that I wanted to return, only this time to teach.”

“I’ve always wanted to do an exchange. I heard nothing but wonderful things from other teachers who have done this. Since I’m single with no kids, I thought it would be a fantastic opportunity for me to learn about another country and its education system.”

What are some of the goals you have set for yourself while on exchange with the International Education Exchange Program?

“One of my goals is to be ready for adventures of all kinds; I am going to make it my goal to say yes to every opportunity that I am given. I think this will enable me to have a life-changing year with many adventures and opportunities. Another goal is to develop long-lasting relationships with the people in my new school and community.”

This is a class of educators dedicated to navigating their practice as global citizens, learning and sharing practices while taking their vocation to a different location. We wish the Class of 2013 all the best as they begin their professional development journey, and embrace challenges and new ways of doing things.
