Art 30 students at Edwin Parr Composite School, in Athabasca, have a legacy, and teacher Barbara Burns wants that legacy to continue—not just for her students, but for the community.
Each year, students create works of art that they leave behind as a legacy of their time at the school. Over the years, that artwork has been framed and displayed in various public buildings throughout the town to enhance the buildings’ aesthetics and to brighten the lives of employees and patrons.
This year, Burns is asking for community support to fund the cost of framing more than 25 pieces of art that will become part of a permanent donation to the Athabasca Healthcare Centre. Burns will hold a special event May 11–13 at Athabasca’s Red Roof Gallery to showcase the work. She hopes the show will encourage donations to ensure that her students’ artistic legacy continues to have positive effects in the community.
