On January 21, the God of Fortune Parade kicked off the three-day Chinese New Year celebrations at Edmonton’s Metropolis Winter Festival and ushered in the Year of the Dragon. The Edmonton Bilingual Chinese Education Association is one of the organizers of this event. The festival gave students an opportunity to volunteer and showcase their talents. To welcome the Year of the Dragon, students at Kildare School, in Edmonton, performed a traditional dance of the Oroquen people of Mongolia.

The dragon is the fifth in the twelve Chinese zodiac animal signs and symbolizes power, strength and good fortune. The Year of the Dragon is believed to be auspicious.
