Sixteen staff members from Strathcona Christian Academy Elementary, in Sherwood Park, had their heads shaved for a good cause on October 2. Staff members sacrificed their hair to benefit cancer treatment and research at the Cross Cancer Institute. They agreed to shave their heads if students raised $10,500 for cancer research. Thanks to their combined efforts, $23,455 was raised. “It is both heartwarming and overwhelming to see the tremendous response of our staff, parents and students to this important cause,” said Principal Francis Poole. Elk Island Public School Trustee Lisa Brower was equally impressed. “Our system PD focus is ‘engaging hearts and minds.’ The head shaving was more than just raising money … the link was made to collective moral responsibility and how much we can do when we work together!”
