Ron Mundell, 1923–1999

Ron Mundell, teacher, community worker and recipient of the ATA's Honorary Membership in 1994, has died at age 76.

Mundell was born in Wales on May 15, 1923. In 1952, he accepted his first teaching assignment in Dorothy, a town near Drumheller. He was active at the local level, holding the position of president and vice-president of the Strathcona Local. In 1978, he received Administrator of the Year award. In 1994, he was honored by the ATA with its highest honor—honorary membership. In nominating Mundell for honorary membership, Strathcona Local described him as "a quietly proud Canadian, a diplomat, educator, community worker, gardener, environmentalist and care-giver especially to young people—Ron represents the best of our citizens."

Rev. J. Hugh MacGregor, in his eulogy given at Mundell's funeral on May 18, said Mundell will be remembered as a "caring, respectful, compassionate man who accepted others and encouraged them to be the best that they could be."
