Noreen O'Haire, an ATA executive assistant, has been appointed coordinator of professional development. She will assume her new duties on January 1, 1996, when the current coordinator, Mary-Jo Williams, retires.
O'Haire brings to the position extensive experience in professional development. She taught for 18 years in Saskatchewan, Alberta, England and British Columbia before joining the staff of the British Columbia Teachers' Federation in 1982, where she served as assistant director of professional development.
In 1985, O'Haire joined the ATA as an executive assistant in professional development. In that capacity, she has assisted in developing the leadership in professional development program for Alberta teachers, been responsible for the operation of the ATA' s instructor corps and helped to initiate the Alberta Global Education Project.
She has also spearheaded the creation of a professional development program for the All India Secondary Teachers' Federation, served as global education commissioner for the Association of Supervision in Curriculum Development and presented a leadership seminar to the All India Primary Teachers' Federation.
O'Haire is a member of the Education Society of Edmonton and Phi Delta Kappa (Alberta Chapter), a professional organization that addresses education issues.
She holds a bachelor of arts degree and professional teaching certificate from the University of Saskatchewan and a master of education degree from the University of Gonzaga in Spokane, Washington.
