Partnership translates into success

Iskuulka dhiganayo (the Somali translation of the ATA publication Parenting Through the School Years: A Guide for Parents of K–12 Students) is designed to help Somali parents understand Alberta’s education system and their role in it and to engage and welcome immigrant families to Alberta schools. All partners in this project agree that the Somali version of Parenting Through the School Years is only a starting point. They hope to translate the guide into many languages in the future. The translation results from the collaborative effort of the Somali community, Edith Rogers Junior High School, in Edmonton, the Edmonton Public Teachers Local No. 37, the Alberta Teachers’ Association and the Edmonton Public School District.
