About Alberta's provincial diploma exams

Alberta's learning ministry administers provincial diploma exams for most Grade 12 academic subjects. The Grade 12 examination program is intended to develop and maintain excellence in educational standards by certifying graduating students' academic achievement. Diploma exams are written for English 30 and 33, Français 30, Social Studies 30 and 33, Mathematics 30 and 33, Biology 30, Chemistry 30, Physics 30 and Science 30.

Students enrolled in these courses must write the diploma exams at the end of the school term. The exams are then marked by the ministry and this mark is averaged with the mark sent in by the student's teacher. The final blended mark appears on the student's transcript, which is mailed to the student's home. Students usually receive their transcripts about four weeks after writing the exams. In order to pass and obtain credit for a course, students must achieve a final blended mark of more than 50 percent.

If parents want more information about the Diploma Examination Program, they should contact their child's school.
