Assignable Time Calculators

Calculate your own assignable and instruction hours by using these two Calculators:

ELEMENTARY / JUNIOR HIGH

HIGH SCHOOL

You will need:

  • Your timetable, with bell schedule;
  • Calendar (school and division);
  • These guidelines:

1. Who is subject to instructional and assignable time limits?

a) your primary function is instruction to students.

b) you are a lead teacher or in receipt of an allowance that is not an administrative function.

c) you supervise another teacher (or pre-service teacher in a registered apprentice program).

Note: see definition of instructional time in the Guide to Education.

2. Who is not subject to the instructional and assignable time limits?

a) you have an administrative designation without a primary function of teaching.

b) you are central office staff (ie, psychologist, director) and your primary function is not student instruction.

3. Are field trips and student exchanges instructional and assignable time?

a) if the field trip is part of instruction or part of a credit course, the time providing instruction is instructional time.

b) if supervising the instruction of another individual, this time is instructional time.

c) any required and assigned duty during the field trip is assignable time (ie, travel time, bus trip, etc).

For example, evening field trips when teachers are "on call" and supervising students, is assignable time.

Save a copy of the applicable spreadsheet on your own computer.

You can change column widths and copy/paste information from one cell to another cell on a different sheet. This is useful for copying timetable information between days.
