Technical Solutions Analyst

Two (2) Permanent Full-Time Positions

The Alberta Teachers’ Association, as the professional organization of teachers, promotes and advances public education, safeguards standards of professional practice and serves as the advocate for its members.

We have two openings for technical solutions analysts, one focused on cloud technologies the other on data solutions. Reporting to the Team Lead, Solutions Architecture, these positions work in a team to develop and maintain IT solutions to meet the business needs of the Association.

Cloud focus

The primary technologies used in this role include Microsoft Azure, SharePoint, M365, ASP.Net (C#), Drupal (PHP), Power Platform and related technologies. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Build and maintain cloud-based solutions to support the business needs of the Association;
  • Build and maintain business process workflows using the Power Platform and related technologies;
  • Maintain and optimize SharePoint Online and SharePoint on prem infrastructure;
  • Maintain and optimize cloud/Azure infrastructure;
  • Implement user authentication and authorization using AD and Azure AD; and
  • Document solution design and implementation.

Qualifications

  • Certificate or diploma in computing technology or related field;
  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or a related field is considered an asset;
  • Being a Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert and having cloud-related certifications are assets;
  • 3 + years experience developing solutions using SharePoint (on-prem and online);
  • 3 + years experience development web solutions in ASP.NET (C#) and/or Drupal (PHP);
  • 3+ years’ experience as a software developer as part of a team;
  • Experience with the software development life cycle including source control, deployment pipelines, and automate testing;
  • Experience developing solutions for Azure;
  • Experience developing solutions using the Power Platform;
  • Experience with REST APIs and microservices driven architecture;
  • Knowledge of user interface design principles and data modelling;
  • Familiarity with Microsoft development tools such as Visual Studio and Azure DevOps;
  • Knowledge and experience in prototyping, designing, and requirement analysis; and
  • Familiarity with other CMS’s is considered an asset.

Data Focus

The primary technologies used in this role include Microsoft SQL Server (Azure and on-prem) and related technologies such as SSRS, SSIS and SSAS as well as Power BI and the Power Platform. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain, reports, data visualizations, dashboards, and report data sources to support business goals and initiatives;
  • Support the migration of data assets to Azure;
  • Ensure access to reporting assets and the underlying data is secure, monitored, and auditable;
  • Develop and implement ETL processes to support the integration of new data sources into the existing data infrastructure;
  • Advise on standardizing data input processes to ensure effective reporting and data analysis;
  • Support and document the design, development and maintenance of data driven projects;
  • Monitor and optimize the performance and security of SQL Server database instances;
  • Monitor and optimize the performance and security of a Power BI environment;
  • Develop and support high availability (HA) solutions;
  • Install and configure SQL Server components (database, SSAS, SSIS and SSRS) on prem and in cloud environments (Azure); and
  • Provide user training on report tools as required.

Qualifications:

  • Certificate or diploma in computing technology or a related field;
  • A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or a related field is an asset;
  • Being a Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert and having cloud-related certifications are assets;
  • 3 + years’ experience with Microsoft SQL Server database administration or similar;
  • 3 + years’ experience building and maintaining reports with SSRS;
  • 3 + years’ experience building and maintaining reports with Power BI;
  • Extensive experience writing and optimizing SQL queries using TSQL;
  • Experience managing and supporting database environments hosted on Microsoft Azure;
  • Experience with Power Apps and Power Automate;
  • Experience with writing DAX queries;
  • Experience building and maintaining data warehouses with Microsoft technologies;
  • Solid understanding of SQL Server and Power BI security features and how to administer them; and
  • Knowledge and experience in prototyping, designing, and requirement analysis.

Salary: This position offers a competitive starting salary of $75,654 to a maximum of $97,333 (after 5 years) plus a full range of employer-paid benefits.

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Work Location: Barnett House (11010 142 Street NW), Edmonton.
